AA Baseball Observations - Maine Red Snappers (aka Portland Sea Dogs) vs New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7/5/2025
So during our recent trip to Maine we took in a Portland Sea Dogs game. The Sea Dogs wore their alternate jerseys, complete with alternate team name, and for the night were the Maine Red Snappers. I love minor league games, especially with four little kids. You get affordable seats, entertainment between innings, and then we had hot dogs and French fries and popcorn and ice cream and baseball cards and Sweet Caroline... The only thing we didn't get was a ball which was devastating for 6 year old P who hasn't figured out that getting a ball isn't normal.
The game featured a number of top prospects in both the Red Sox and Blue Jays organizations. Here's how they fared:
Boston #9 - David Sandlin - RHP - Sandlin pitched four innings in relief and was tagged with the loss after surrendering a trio of solo home runs (one in the 8th and two in the 9th). He did touch 97 on the radar gun though and finished the game with five strike outs.
Boston #12 - Mikey Romero - SS/2B - Romero led off and DH'd in this game, but went 0/4 with a walk and struck out swinging to end the game.
Boston #21 - Allan Castro - OF - Castro hit third and started in center field. He singled and doubled in four trips to raise his average on the season to .298.
Toronto #12 - Charles McAdoo - 3B/OF - McAdoo started at third and hit cleanup for the Fisher Cats. He doubled off Portland starter and major leaguer Hunter Dobbins, and hit the go-ahead home run in the 9th off of David Sandlin. The home run was his 8th of the season.
Toronto #15 - Juaron Watts-Brown - RHP - Watts-Brown started and went five innings for the Fisher Cats allowing just four hits and walking two while striking out six. His ERA in AA this season is just 2.90.
Toronto #22 - Jace Bohrofen - OF - Bohrofen led off for the Fisher Cats and started in right field, but went hitless at the plate going 0/4 with a strike out.
Toronto #27 - Dasan Brown - OF - Brown started in center field and hit 7th, but finished the night 0/3 with a walk. He's batting just .186 in AA.
Toronto #28 - Peyton Williams - 1B - Williams hit third and DH'd for the Fisher Cats, but had a forgettable night going 0/4 with 3 strikeouts and a groundout to the pitcher. He's hitting just .217 in AA.
Standout Performer
For me the player that stood out the most was Ahbram Liendo, Portland's third baseman. Liendo, despite hitting 9th, reached base three times (two singles and a walk), scored two runs, stole two bases, and the only time he was retired came on a fly ball to the warning track in the 9th. A career .217 hitter in the minors with a slugging percentage below .300, this offensive outburst was somewhat out of character as he accounted for 100% of Portland's scoring.
